Mercedes-Benz recovered parts on plywood
In Mexican society the lifestyle of the upper classes is only possible due to the exploitation of the lower ones. The ubiquitousness of the VW Beetle in Mexico represents the lower working classes. A mid-century car that was produced still in the 20th century, representative of how nothing has changes for lower classes in decades, a system that keeps the poor poor, well kept in place by the status quo. This piece makes a play on the social structures of Mexico by changing the roles of society. The material used for the creation of the VW image are Mercedes-Benz auto parts. In the piece the lower classes, represented by the VW, are supported by the collective work of the richer ones, represented by the Mercedes-Benz parts. The ones who have, become the ones that provide the resources to change the system that keeps millions in poverty.
